Astrological New Year: 2020 Aries Ingress Chart

The Aries Ingress is the Astrological New Year in Mundane Astrology. It can be likened to a Solar Return that gives us a snapshot of larger-scale events for the upcoming year in any given country, city, town, and village. I have pulled up the 2020 Aries Ingress Chart for the USA. I would like to write about some points of interest, for predictive purposes, but I stress this is only one chart, and many charts should be looked at for specific predictions. Mundane Astrology is a lot of work, for the simple fact, that many charts are essential i.e. the Jupiter-Saturn Conjunction, Solar and Lunar Ingress Charts, and Eclipse Charts.

However, you can still derive some keen information just by looking at an Aries Ingress Chart, and this is what I attempt to do. We learn by doing. So, what can we expect during the coming year for the USA? On the Ascendant is the fixed star Agena, the Centaur Pholus’ right foot. According to Oscar Hofman, in Fixed Stars in the Chart: Constellations, Lunar Mansions and Mythology, Agena with a Venus/Jupiter nature, is not a malefic star, but does refer to the myth of the Centaur Pholus who out of curiosity, picked up a poison arrow, injured himself and died. However, the star Agena refers to the better half of the Centaur’s qualities which Hofman writes as, “honor, refinement, morality, and health.” At this point, I see this referring to the people’s (mostly) positive response toward the Covid19 virus, in which we are warned not to figuratively, poke the poisoned arrow.  The people are staying home, following the CDC guidelines, keeping a safe distance, taking the virus threat seriously, and closing many things down temporarily.

Mars being Lord 1, the lesser malefic, shows noteworthy conflict, arguments, and raised blood pressure for the people this year, and being in the 2nd house, the major focus will be everything that relates to – money. The people’s focus will be the nation’s assets, the treasury, the banks, all financial systems, and trading. And with Mars applying to conjunct Jupiter, Lord 4, of property, owners, and workers on the land, it’s a no brainer the chart is referring to the big stimulus plan(s) that will be a huge focus after the Corona virus is over. The next big thing will be about restarting the economy, yet with Mars and Jupiter applying to conjunct the general malefic Pluto, whose main myth was kidnapping Persephone – we can expect these financial plans to be troubled or tainted or subverted somehow.

The other point of interest is the fixed star Caput Algol, the head of Medusa, on the (descendant) 7th house cusp area. The USA may be facing big trouble from the “other” i.e. another country or countries in the diplomacy, treaties, and agreements department, but this could be referring to global economic troubles, so not necessarily overt aggression. In last year’s 2019 Aries Ingress, the USA had Algol conjunct Mars in Taurus inside the 9th house. We can now look back, and realize how this was reflecting the Covid19 virus, that originated from the travel abroad to a foreign country (9th house). Venus, Lord 7, is placed in the 6th house of the general public’s health concerns, so issues with foreign affairs could again be directly related to Covid19. Venus is conjunct the fixed star Menkar, the Mouth of the Sea Monster, and Hofman writes Menkar as denoting, “disease, disgrace, ruin, injury from beasts, sickness loss of fortune.” I think we are seeing a picture being painted here as a year of fallout from Covid19. Also, the Moon, which naturally represents the people, opposes Venus, Lord 7, by antiscion (a position mirrored in the 0 deg Cancer – 0 deg Capricorn axis) which also indicates major tension with “the other”. I do look forward (strangely) to seeing how this year will unfold so that I may look back on this chart and study further.
